Earlier in November I had the opportunity to walk along Rattlesnake Creek in Northwest Montana. The fallen leaves near the creek are beginning the process of returning their nutrients to the soil. When I was kneeling among them, the late afternoon sun and tree shadows accented the structure of their bodies on the journey toward decomposition.

The generosity of the leaves stirred my gratitude to them for their gift of the work they had done turning sunlight into energy for the trees that gift the world with oxygen and so much more.

I am grateful for the beauty of the leaves as they start to cycle back through the earth.

Thank you leaves.
